Pair is still trending higher, but the first uptrend line was broken, The Tenkan has crossed below the Kijun line and the Chinkou span is now snaking close to the price curve. We can also see negative momentum divergences appearing. Not going short yet, just moving stops up, but will monitor for a change in tone.

$XAUUSD now at fib 127.2 extension which equates to the VIDYA on the daily chart. Since it's below the daily Kumo I would expect any rallies to be capped around 1370. Next fib support below is around 1327 near the major harmonic of 1320. Trend is still down and Chinkou span is below the price curve.

$GE - 24yr Monthly Chart

$GE - looks to have completed a long, arduous bear market. You can see a large A-B-C Elliott Wave pattern. The low of Wave C hit the 161.8 extension off Wave B and retraced almost the entire move up from the August 1987 high; not a ringing endorsement of the "buy and hold" strategy, is it? It certainly does look safe now to start buying the dips, since there have been fundamental changes in GE's holdings and in its outlook.

$SOX/SMH - weekly chart shows upside break above the downtrend line drawn off the July
2007 high. $SOX hit my first target of 290. Weekly CCI trend went green for the first time
since it went red in 2006. Next target range looks like 304-312 with 266 acting as weekly
support. Another obvious level of resistance is the neckline of a broken H&S pattern near
335. Price is above 13,26,and 52 wk mavs, 13 is above 26 and 52 and ticking higher. Only
52wk has not turned higher yet, but did provide support at this week's lows.

SPX Monthly Chart Update

The chart covers 1995 -2009. I drew a horizontal
white line at last month's high so we could look back
in time and see the importance of that price zone.
Let's call it 955-960.
In 1997 it was resistance for almost 6 months
before the market was able to break through.
A retest occurred in 1998 for three months.
Finding support the market was then able to
move higher. There was another test of the zone in 2001
with the market first finding support and then breaking
through to the down side finally a year later in 2002.
Next in 2003, the market bottomed,
broke through that resistance level, tested it
as support for three months, then launched the
move to the 2007 high. We can then see
the level tested and broken in the crash of late
2008. Then with our latest rally last month we tested the zone
again and were turned back. Note the bearish
Evening Star Candlestick pattern. Note also
that we still do not have a bullish crossover
in MACD. I'm not Gonzo bearish, but since
we had a bearish MACD crossover on the weekly
chart, I think it's prudent to keep long positions
small and have more cash available until the
longer term picture improves.

Note that within the channel outlined yesterday, there is a steeper down channel bounded by the yellow lines. Note the upper yellow line is following a declining 5dma which is where we failed today. We will need a catalyst(earnings perhaps) to break us out. Otherwise we will likely test 870 again. Below the blue lower channel line(870) the 100dma awaits around 850. At least it is still rising.

Head and Shoulders top not a done deal yet. Notice we are trading in a parallel channel. This could be nothing more than an A-B-C correction, or a bullish flag pattern
that traces out as A-B-C-D-E. Play it as it unfolds.
"Reaction" to earnings announcements should give
us clues as to market direction.

RIMM - After an earnings gap up, it traded in a nice channel until it reached the 85 target off the double bottom. That was also the price range of a previous stock split in '07. Once it broke down out of the channel on 6/18, I'd say game over at that point. Note that it has now broken the uptrend line from the double bottom low.

$SPX Daily Chart- Possible Head/Shoulders Top w/ Target

Many traders see a potential Head and Shoulders top forming on $SPX and many other charts as well. In order to confirm this formation, we need to see a close below the yellow neckline which is around 892. The price target off this pattern would be around 820. Also noteworthy is the 818 level which has provided support/resistance many times during the last two years.

96 is starting point. 1.000 is the 930 high. Note 1.382 occurs at 5/15 low. Then 1.618 today. Next target would be 2.000 5/28. It also lines up exactly if you use 814 low as starting point. Today is 1.382 from that low. Also note the lows occurring at .382 and .618. Scary!

Financials - XLF Daily Chart - Short term Bullish

Financials continue their short term bullish trend. XLF gapped up Friday above the 100dma and moved north from there on 280 million shares. Since the 5.88 low, above average volume days have been up days with one exception. I remain positive on these for now. $XBD stocks like GS and MS have already moved up significantly and may need a rest. However, Banks look like they have more room to the upside. I have three targets for XLF based on Elliott Wave. These are 12.06, 13.52, 15.88. Support should be 9.70. Below that I'd have to reconsider. If you don't want to play individual Bank stocks, consider leveraged longs like FAS or UYG.

$SOX - Semiconductors - Long Term Monthly Chart

Semiconductor stocks hit all-time highs in March of 2000. They have been in a vicious bear market and lagged badly as the S and P 500 made new highs in 2007. I don't know whether or not the absolute bottom is in, but with this index returning to the lows of 1998, I think we are in an area of value. Technology stocks as a whole meet this criteria in my humble opinion. I trade in and out of this group but I am also building a position to hold for a longer time period. Stocks to consider might be INTC,NSM,XLNX,ALTR,NVDA,AMAT from this space. From the broader spectrum a stock like CSCO would also be a candidate.

There are a number of points of resistance we could target, so let's label a "zone" of resistance, 850-870. The 20wk moving average should offer support around 830. Below that is our previous resistance gap 818-826. If the tone is still bullish this coming week, we should hold above these areas. If tone turns negative, expect a return to 800-804.

Several bloggers have posted a monthlhy chart of the Dow Jones Industrials displaying the 1987-1990 trend line. I thought it necessary to post a monthly chart of $SPX with the same trendline. Notice that the trend line comes in very close to the 2002 low around 768.
